Our sailor's ditty bag is a waxed-canvas synch top bag made with durable 10.10oz duck canvas. Built by sailors, for sailors. Made by hand in Boston, Massachusetts.
Each bag is 16.5” tall x 8.5” wide (42cm x 21.6cm) and has two internal pockets. One narrow pocket is large enough to fit most mobile devices, while a wider pocket is suited for wallets, a Kindle, keys, or other items. Two solid brass #2 clasps are fixed to the 1/2” diameter rope straps with an eye splice, and whipped with waxed marline. Two clasp tabs are available to wear the bag as a backpack or sling bag. Grommets are solid brass. Each bag is lined providing 2 layers of 10.10oz waxed canvas for added durability. Bottom is constructed from 1 layer of waxed canvas, and 1 layer of genuine leather. Weather resistant.
A sailor’s best friend.
Originally made and used by sailors from scrap sailcloth and remnants of rope, a ditty bag was the only way sailors could carry their belongings from ship to shore. Onboard vessels, space is at a premium, so sailors had to carefully pack only the essential clothing, tools, small trinkets or letters from loved ones.

The tote bag is believed to have been invented in Maine in the 1940’s as a way to carry ice. Since waxed canvas is durable and water resistant, it was the perfect fabric to lug loads of ice from the truck to the freezer.
Our waxed canvas tote bags are reinforced with two layers of 10.10oz duck canvas and 2-inch wide heavy cotton straps. Made by hand in Boston, Massachusetts.
